Extract of cellulose from Gelam wood (Melaleuca leucadendron Linn) has been carried out using methanol and various concentration of hydrochloric acid. Cellulose was characterized using FT-IR spectroscopy. Cellulose from Gelam wood was converted into levulinic acid by F^BW^CUo] as catalyst at 80°C and water as reaction medium.
