ANALISIS RESEPSI MASKULINITAS DALAM VIDEO VICE INDONESIA EDISI "BREAK THE STEREO"

The purpose of this research is to determine the meaning and position of the audience from the three reader positions proposed by Stuart Hall through the two video series of Vice Indonesia edition of “Break The Stereo” which discusses the stereotype of masculinity. This research uses a qualitative research method with reception analysis method. Methods of data collection using documentation studies and in depth interviews. Whereas the informants were selected based on purposive sampling. The conclusion of this study shows that the informants understand masculinity as a male concept which includes muscles, physique, and male dominance. At the same time, when the informants opinion categorized into three reader positions by Stuart Hall, in this research there are three informants who occupy the negotiating position and one informant in the opposition position in the first video. Then in the second video, three informants are in a dominant hegemonic position and the other is in an opposition position.
