HUBUNGAN BODY FAT DAN SOMATOTYPE DENGAN KECEPATAN REAKSI PADA ATLET BULU TANGKIS DI KOTA PALEMBANG

Tifani, Anniisa Tri - Personal Name;

South Sumatra is one of the provinces that has succeeded in producing the most badminton athletes in Indonesia. However, it is not accompanied by a lot of achievements. The athlete's achievement can be affected by physical condition, especially reaction time. Badminton athletes must be able to respond briefly and produce speed and accuracy of their movements. Reaction time is supported by balanced body fat composition and suitable body type (somatotype). This study aims to determine the relationship between body fat and somatotype with reaction time of badminton athletes. This research is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. Total sample was 111 respondents selected by purposive sampling. Body fat was measured using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). Anthropometric measurements were taken to obtain somatotype scores, namely ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that the respondents are classified as having excess body fat 42,3%, 37,8% are normal, and 19,8% have less body fat. Most of respondents belonged to the endomorph 49,5%, ectomorph 35,1%, and mesomorph 15,3%. Overall, 51,4% of respondents have good reaction time, 33,3% fair, and 15,3% poor. The results of statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between body fat (p = 0.001) and somatotype (p = 0.001) with the reaction time of badminton athletes in Palembang City. It can be concluded that low to normal body fat and having an ectomorph type will give badminton athletes the advantage of being able to react faster. Athletes, accompanied by coaches and their families, should be able to do routine training and diligently monitor physical condition, body fat, and anthropometry to improve their performance.
