PENGARUH HIDROKSIAPATIT CANGKANG KEPITING BAKAU (SCYLLA SERRATA) SEBAGAI BAHAN DESENSITISASI TERHADAP PENUTUPAN TUBULI DENTIN

Nafisah, Dinda Rachma - Personal Name;

Background: Dentin hypersensitivity is a condition characterized by sharp, brief pain caused by exposed dentin as a reaction to external stimuli. One treatment involves the use of desensitizing agents to reduce sensitivity, such as hydroxyapatite. Hydroxyapatite is a non-organic calcium compound widely used as a biomedical material and can be synthesized from natural calcium sources, such as crab shell waste containing 53-78% calcium compounds by dry weight. Objective: To determine the effect of hydroxyapatite from mangrove crab shells as a desensitizing agent on dentinal tubule occlusion. Methods: A laboratory experimental study is conducted using a pre and post-test with a control group design, involving 24 premolar teeth divided into four groups: 10% hydroxyapatite paste (Group A), 15% hydroxyapatite paste (Group B), Sensodyne Repair and Protect toothpaste (Group C), and distilled water (Group D). Before treatment, the samples were immersed in a 6% citric acid solution to expose the dentinal tubules, then examined using a measuring microscope. All samples were treated for 7 days and then observed again. Results: The paired t-test results showed significant differences in dentinal tubule occlusion scores before and after treatment in Groups 10% hydroxyapatite, 15% hydroxyapatite, and control (+). Oneway ANOVA test showed a significant difference between the conditions after and before treatment. Post Hoc test showed no significant differences between 10% and 15% hydroxyapatite paste and control (+). Conclusion: The application of 10% and 15% hydroxyapatite paste derived from mangrove crab shells as a desensitizing agent shows potential for promoting the occlusion of dentinal tubules.
