KERAGAMAN JENIS LICHEN DI SEKITAR PABRIK PENGOLAHAN SULFUR DI DESA PULAU SEMAMBU, INDRALAYA UTARA
Lichen is an organism that is very sensitive to the presence of air pollutants, especially in industrial areas such as around PT Dunia Kimia Utama factory located on Semambu Island, North Indralaya. PT. Dunia Kimia Utama is the only industry in South Sumatra Province that produces sulfuric acid and aluminum sulfate. Industrial activities carried out by PT. Dunia Kimia Utama produce emissions, especially sulfur dioxide gas (SO₂) which can have an impact on the environment. The purpose of this study was to identify the types of corticolous lichens on Polyalthia longifolia around the sulfur processing plant, to determine the diversity of lichen species that live around the sulfur processing plant, and to determine the types of lichen that are tolerant and sensitive to SO2 pollution from the sulfur processing plant. The location of the study was determined using the purposive sampling method and the results of the study were processed using a qualitative descriptive method. A total of 15 types of Lichen were found at the study location consisting of 12 types of crustose thalli and 3 types of foliose thalli. The shape of the colony was round as many as 7 types, elongated to the side 4 types and irregular 4 types. Vegetative reproduction tools are soredia and isidia; and generative reproduction tools are apothecia and perithecia. Types of lichen that are tolerant to sulfur pollution growing around the sulfur factory are Dirinaria applanata, Dirinari picta and Graphis sp1. Types of lichen that are sensitive to sulfur pollution include Alyxoria varia.
