Geovani, Muhamad Alvin - Personal Name;

Poor indoor air quality affects comfort, health and can cause various symptoms of Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) with no apparent cause. These symptoms usually appear while inside the building and subside after exiting the building. SBS can be identified if more than 20-50% of building occupants experience similar complaints for at least two weeks. This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. Samples in this study were taken using the total sampling method. The number of samples in this study were 284 students. Data were collected through questionnaires and measurement of air quality samples. The data in this study were analyzed univariately and bivariately (with the chi-square method). This study showed that out of 284 students of Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University Palembang, 206 students experienced SBS complaints, while 78 students did not. Analysis showed that temperature, PM10, PM2.5, TVOC, and formaldehyde could not be statistically assessed. Lighting (P-value 0.224), age (P-value 0.416), and gender (P-value 0.439) were not significant, while humidity (P-value 0.025) was significant. This study shows that air humidity is significantly related, while other factors have no significant relationship with SBS complaints in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University, Palembang City.
