STRATEGI BERTAHAN HIDUP BURUH CUCI PEREMPUAN DALAM UPAYA PEMENUHAN EKONOMI RUMAH TANGGA DI KELURAHAN SUKAMULYA KECAMATAN SEMATANG BORANG KOTA PALEMBANG

This research aims to understand the survival stratregies employed by female laundry workers in their effort to meet household economic needs in Sukamulya Village, Sematang Borang District, Palembang City. The method in this research uses a descriptive qualitative research method with a case study research strategy, and the data collection techniques used are through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained in this study comes 12 informants, consisting of 8 main informants and 4 supporting informants. This research uses Suharto's Survival Strategy concept as guide to analyze and answer the research problem formulation. The result of this study indicate that there are 3 types of survival strategies employed by laundry workers in their efforts to meet household economic needs, including : active strategies, passive strategies, and network strategies. The active strategies employed by laundry workers include increasing working hours,seeking side jobs, and utilizing family members to work. Increasing working hours is done by working as a laundry worker in more than one household,while seeking additional income is achieved through farming and trading, as well as involving their children to help work in order to support the family's economy. The passive strategy employed by laundry workers is adopting a frugal lifestyle. The networking strategy is the last strategy used by laundry workers, which involves utilizing their social networks, such as borrowing money from family, borrowing money from employers, borrowing household necessities from nearby stores, and utilizing social assistance funds from the government. The three forms of strategy implementation were carried out by the laundry workers as a survival strategy
