PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN BIOBASED COOKING AID TERHADAP KUALITAS UNBLEACHED PULP DENGAN METODE KRAFT PULPING

Fikri, M Nazar Al - Personal Name;

Wood is the main and most expensive raw material in pulp production; therefore, its processing must be optimized for sustainability. The absorption of cooking liquor into wood chips is crucial to ensure optimal delignification. Improvements can be achieved through an impregnation stage before cooking to ensure even liquor penetration, as well as by using cooking aids that reduce surface tension and accelerate delignification. At PT Tanjungenim Lestari Pulp and Paper, cooking is carried out in a continuous digester with an impregnation stage, but this continuous process often produces shives that reduce pulp quality. This study carried out pulp cooking using a Laboratory Pulping Unit with the Kraft pulping method, employing sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium sulfide (Na₂S) as cooking liquor. A biobased cooking aid was applied using two methods: (1) 50% addition during impregnation and 50% during cooking, and (2) 100% addition during cooking, with cooking aid ratios of 80% biodispersant and 20% microbiological agent, and 90% biodispersant and 10% microbiological agent, at active alkali charges of 17% and 16.5%. The resulting pulp was tested for quality parameters including total yield, consistency, viscosity, kappa number, and brightness, while black liquor by-products were analyzed for pH, total titratable alkali, total solids, and residual alkali as supporting parameters. The optimal unbleached pulp quality was obtained using the method of adding 50% cooking aid during impregnation and 50% during cooking, with a ratio of 90% biodispersant and 10% microbiological agent at 17% active alkali charge, yielding results of 51.38% total yield, 34.61% ISO brightness, and a kappa number of 18,26. Keywords: Kraft Process, Impregnation, Cooking Aid, Eucalyptus pellita
