EFEK PASTA GIGI GAMBIR TERHADAP REMINERALISASI GIGI
Background: Enamel is the outer layer and hardest tissue covering the crown of the tooth. Tooth enamel consist of 96% inorganic and 4% organic components. The missing component is called demineralization. Demineralization can be fixed by remineralization process. Remineralization can be enhanced by adding herbal ingredients such as gambir toothpaste as an alternative. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of gambir toothpaste on tooth remineralization. Methods: Ten premolar crowns were divided into 2 groups: Group A (gambir toothpaste), Group B (control). Initial hardness values were measured using a Vickers Hardness Tester. Samples were applied for 30 minutes for 14 days, then soaked using artificial saliva and stored in an incubator at 37oC. Measured again after remineralization using Vickers Hardness Tester. Statistical tests using Paired t-test and Independent t-test. Results: Paired t-test results showed a significant increase in tooth enamel hardness in each group. Independent t-test results showed the difference in initial hardness and after remineralization between groups there was no significant difference. Conclusion: There is no significant difference between gambir toothpaste and placebo toothpaste groups on tooth remineralization.
