Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Sriwijaya xv + 31 pages, 4 figures, 4 tables, 5 appendices Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is one of the medicinal plants from the Zingiberaceae family that has long been used in traditional medicine in various Asian countries, including Indonesia. This plant is known to be rich in active compounds, particularly curcuminoids such as curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin, which have various pharmacological activities, especially antioxidant properties. These antioxidant activities are important as they can neutralize free radicals that have the potential to damage body cells. Previous studies have demonstrated the antioxidant potential of turmeric extracts. This study was conducted to evaluate not only the antioxidant activities of each part of the turmeric plant but also to assess the potential for enhancing these activities through the combination of different plant parts, an area that has not been extensively studied. This study used the maceration extraction method with methanol as the solvent, and antioxidant activity testing was conducted in vitro using the DPPH method. The results showed that the rhizome showed the highest antioxidant activity, with an IC50 value of 10.626 mg/L (categorized as very strong), the leaves showed strong activity (36.547 mg/L), while the petiole of 258.146 mg/L were considered weak. The combination of rhizomes (98.60 ± 0.17%) and leaves (85.40 ± 0.07%) showed an additive effect, with a smaller combined inhibition percentage compared to the high single inhibition, but not much different, namely 96.38 ± 0.07%. The results of the combination test between rhizome and turmeric petiole extracts showed an additive effect, namely 97.78 ± 0.07%. The results of the combination test between rhizome, petiole, and turmeric leaves extracts also showed an additive effect, namely 97.90 ± 0.01%. These findings indicate that combining extracts from various parts of turmeric produces an additive effect that has the potential to increase antioxidant activity, while supporting the development of more effective natural products as therapeutic agents.
