KONTAMINASI TELUR SOIL TRANSMITTED HELMINTHS PADA SAYUR KUBIS (BRASSICA OLERACEA VAR.CAPITATA) DI PASAR TRADISIONAL KEBON SEMAI KOTA PALEMBANG
This study identified contamination of Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) eggs in cabbage purchased at Kebon Semai Traditional Market in Palembang City. STH spreads through the soil and can cause various health problems. Cabbage, which is often consumed raw, is very susceptible to STH egg contamination. This study used a descriptive observational cross-sectional design. Thirty cabbage samples were taken randomly from ten sellers. The sedimentation method was used to test the samples in the laboratory. The samples were soaked in 0.9% NaCl solution and centrifuged. After centrifugation, the samples were observed microscopically to find STH eggs. The results showed that one out of 30 samples (3.33%) were contaminated with STH eggs and the species found was Ascaris lumbricoides. Every cabbage in the market was placed on the table. This indicates good hygiene practices. Although the level of contamination was low, these findings indicate that further education is needed to properly clean vegetables before consumption.
