KARAKTERISTIK PASIEN OTITIS MEDIA AKUT DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 2022-2024

Fitria, Nadya Ainal - Personal Name;

Acute Otitis Media (AOM) is a condition characterized by inflammation of the middle ear mucosa, the Eustachian tube, antrum antrum, and mastoid cells, caused by bacteria or viruses. AOM is marked by the presence of fluid and/or inflammation in the middle ear. If a persistent perforation occurs with continuous discharge, it can lead to further complications, such as chronic suppurative otitis media. AOM that is not treated properly and quickly can result in complications, further symptoms that interfere with daily activities, and hearing loss, which can decrease the patient's quality of life. This study was conducted to determine the characteristics of AOM patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected using total sampling from the medical records of AOM patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. The sample size in this study was 64 subjects. The highest incidence of AOM was found in the age range of 19-59 years (32.8%), with the majority of patients being female (54.7%). The most common primary complaint was discharge from the ear (43.8%). The left ear was the most affected (42.2%). The most common stage of OMA was perforation (39.1%). A history of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) was found in 62.5% of the cases, 73.4% had no history of allergic rhinitis, and 79.7% had no history of nasopharyngeal diseases. The majority of AOM patients were found to have the characteristics: aged 29-59 years, predominantly female, complaining of ear discharge, unilateral ear involvement, perforated stage AOM, with a history of ARI, without a history of allergic rhinitis, and without a history of nasopharyngeal diseases.
