This research is motivated by the rampant smoking among female adolescents and is mostly carried out by teenagers who are female students. Some people have different views on the existence of smoking among women. This research was conducted to find out the meaning of smoking among female active smokers (study of female students in Palembang City), using symbolic interaction theory. Examining the use of symbolic interaction theory by Herbert Mead which consists of mind, self, and society. The data collection method in this research is qualitative with descriptive method. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants consisted of 6 female teenagers aged 18-20 years who live in Palembang City. Based on the results of mind research there is an entertainment motive. Self, commonplace and want to show the impact felt. Society, good support from supporting informants for adolescent girls who smoke. Keywords: Symbolic Interaction, Adolescent Girls, Smoking Actions
