EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK UBI JALAR UNGU (Ipomea batatas L.) TERHADAP ZONA HAMBAT BAKTERI Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Turridho, Aisya - Personal Name;

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic gram-negative bacterial pathogen frequently associated with nosocomial infections. The challenge of antibiotic resistance has driven interest in alternative treatments, such as plant extracts. Purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is known to contain bioactive secondary metabolites with potential antibacterial properties. This in vitro experimental study was conducted at the Center for Health Laboratories, Palembang City, to evaluate the effectiveness of purple sweet potato extract against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 using the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion test. Extract concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% were tested alongside gentamicin as a positive control and blank discs as a negative control, with five repetitions per group. Extracts were obtained through maceration with 96% ethanol and diluted in 0.5% Na-CMC. Antibacterial effectiveness was assessed by measuring inhibition zones, followed by bivariate and multivariate data analysis. The study found significant differences in the antibacterial effectiveness of purple sweet potato extract compared to gentamicin. The extract at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% showed no inhibition zone against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, indicating a lack of antibacterial activity. Conversely, gentamicin produced a mean inhibition zone of 19.8 mm, demonstrating effective bacterial growth inhibition. Purple sweet potato extract did not show significant antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa at the concentrations tested. Keywords: Purple Sweet Potato Extract, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Antibacterial, Zone of Inhibition, Gentamicin
