KEPENTINGAN TIONGKOK DALAM PROGRAM DIPLOMASI PANDA KE INDONESIA

The needs of countries looking to establish relationships with other countries have changed due to advances in diplomacy. Since the 7th century, pandas have been used as a tool of public diplomacy by China. Before being used as a tool of public diplomacy, pandas have long been given as gifts to friendly countries. The first use of pandas as a symbol of friendship was by Wu Zetian in the 7th century when he gave pandas to Japan. Until 1950, the Chinese government decided to make the panda one of the symbols of Chinese identity because pandas only exist in China. In 1957, under the leadership of Mao Zedong, China again gave pandas as gifts to the Soviet Union and other communist countries. Panda loans continue to occur in the country to this day. China's interests show that borrowing pandas is China's strategy to build its own identity or national Image and also as a form of China's concern for the threatened status of cute animals to become endangered animals, so China began to spread panda conservation in the world. By using the panda as a cute and attractive symbol of the country, forming a "strong" identity. Until 2017, China sent two pandas with Indonesia to carry out panda diplomacy that year. The theory used in this research uses the theory of National Interest from the book by Thomas W. Robinson, and uses qualitative research methods with descriptive methods. It is known that the panda breeding program was inaugurated within 10 years. So that within 10 years, panda diplomacy which is China's national image to approach cooperation and strengthen relations between the two countries, there are interests in what China wants to establish this relationship with Indonesia This study aims to explain what China's interests are in the Panda Diplomacy Program to Indonesia in supporting the country's national interests. The results show China's interests in the Panda Diplomacy Program to Indonesia to preserve China's cute mascot through the conservation of the Breeding Loan Giant Panda.
