SELF-CONTROL, TINGKAT KESEPIAN, DAN SCREEN TIME MAHASISWA PROGRAM STUDI PENDIDIKAN DOKTER UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA
In the current digital era, technological dependence and escalated screen time are widespread phenomena, particularly among medical students. This occurrence is influenced by variables such as self-control and level of loneliness. However, the relationship among these variables has not been investigated among medical students at Sriwijaya University. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the association between self-control, loneliness, and screen time in this population. This study employed a cross-sectional design using random sampling. The participants were active students from the 2022–2024 academic batches who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Data collection was conducted online through a Google Form comprising three questionnaires: Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS), UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3, and screen time duration. Results. Lower levels of self-control showed a significant association with higher levels of loneliness (p < 0.001, r = -0.445) and increased screen time (p = 0.01, r = -0.191). Meanwhile, no significant relationship was found between loneliness and screen time (p = 0.539; r = -0.037). A significant relationship exists between self-control and both loneliness and screen time. In contrast, no significant association was found between loneliness and screen time. These results could be affected by non-normally distributed data and other confounding variables that were not addressed in this study. Keywords. Self-control, level of loneliness, screen time, medical students.
