IDENTIFIKASI TELUR CACING SOIL TRANSMITTED HELMINTHS (STH) PADA LALAT DI TEMPAT PEMBUANGAN AKHIR (TPA) PALEMRAYA KABUPATEN OGAN ILIR
Introduction: Flies are mechanical vectors of enteric pathogens and may carry Soil-Transmitted Helminth (STH) eggs, particularly in open-dumping landfill environments. This study assessed STH egg contamination on flies at the Palemraya disposal site and described fly density, species composition, and local environmental conditions. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the active zone of the site. Flies were captured using an insect net; density was measured with a fly grill. Species identification and microscopic screening for STH eggs were performed in the laboratory on pooled samples. Results: A total of 671 flies were collected: Musca domestica 52.8%, Chrysomya megacephala 42.7%, and Sarcophaga sp. 4.5%. Across 66 examined pools, no STH eggs were detected. Median fly density was 17.66 (high category). Conclusion: Despite high fly density at Palemraya, no STH egg contamination was found. Upgrading waste management toward controlled/sanitary landfill and strengthening integrated vector control remain recommended to mitigate pathogen transmission risk.
