PENGARUH INTERMITTENT FASTING TIPE TIME RESTRICTED FEEDING (TRF) TERHADAP INFLAMASI JARINGAN ADIPOSA PADA MENCIT MODEL OBESITAS

Reinaldo, Revo - Personal Name;

Obesity is a chronic metabolic condition characterized by excessive fat accumulation and low-grade systemic inflammation, which play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance and various metabolic complications. Intermittent fasting, particularly the time-restricted feeding (TRF) type, has been shown to improve metabolic homeostasis and reduce inflammation; however, evidence regarding its effects on immune cell infiltration within adipose tissue remains limited. This study aimed to determine the effect of TRF on adipose tissue inflammation by analyzing macrophage and neutrophil counts in an obesity mouse model. This experimental laboratory study used 20 male mice divided into four groups: normal control, obese control, TRF–high-fat diet, and TRF–standard diet. The obese and TRF groups were first induced to develop obesity until achieving a Lee index >0.3, followed by a two-week TRF regimen consisting of 16 hours of fasting (water only) and 8 hours of ad libitum feeding daily. Subcutaneous adipose tissue was processed into histological preparations, and macrophages and neutrophils were quantified using a light microscope. Data were analyzed using comparative statistical tests with a significance level of p0.05). These findings suggest that TRF has the potential to reduce the degree of adipose tissue inflammation, but its effect may require a longer intervention duration or a combination of dietary and physical activity factors to achieve significant outcomes. This study is expected to serve as a basis for future research on the potential of TRF as a non-pharmacological strategy for obesity management.
