KARAKTERISTIK PASIEN HIPOTIROID DI RS MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 2022-2025

Ghaniyana, Azalia Rifati - Personal Name;

Background: Hypothyroidism is a condition of thyroid hormone insufficiency characterized by elevated levels of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and decreased Free Thyroxine (FT4). Clinical manifestations of this condition are often mild and nonspecific, such as fatigue and weight gain. This study aims to comprehensively describe the characteristics of hypothyroid patients based on their sociodemographic and clinical profiles at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang. Methods: This descriptive study used secondary data from the medical records of 172 patients diagnosed with hypothyroidism at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang, during the 2022-2025 period. Variables included sociodemographic profiles, clinical profiles (such as history of comorbidities, past medical history, Billewicz index score, and body mass index), and laboratory test results (such as anti-TPO, cholesterol, liver and kidney function, and vitamin D). Results: Hypothyroid patients were predominantly female (more than 60%) and were predominantly from the adult population. Most study subjects (91.3%) showed no obvious clinical symptoms of hypothyroidism, with euthyroid/normal Billewicz Index scores. A history of comorbidities was quite common (76 of 172 patients), with degenerative heart disease (12.1%) being the most important comorbidity. Most subjects had a history of autoimmune thyroid disease (19.2%) and thyroid malignancy (11.0%). Conclusion: Hypothyroid patients at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang, were predominantly adult females with a significant pre-existing medical history. Classic clinical manifestations often appeared less prominent, so early diagnosis requires more in-depth clinical and laboratory analysis.
