PENGARUH FRAKSI VOLUME SIC–FLY ASH PADA KOMPOSIT ALUMINIUM TERHADAP SIFAT KEKERASAN DENSITAS POROSITAS DAN STRUKTUR MIKRO

Aluminum is one that is often used at this time, due to the superior properties of the aluminum material itself. However, aluminum itself still has some shortcomings such as limited strength and stiffness. One of the developments of aluminum to improve its properties is by making composite materials. This study aims to vary the volume fraction to analyze the effect of varying the volume fraction of silicon carbide and fly ash on the mechanical properties and physical properties of aluminum composites. In this study, aluminum composite materials were made with variations in the volume fraction of reinforcement (SiC 2.5%/FA 10%), (SiC 5%/FA 7.5%), (SiC 7.5%/FA 5%), and (SiC 10%/FA 2.5%) using the powder metallurgy method. In the mixing process, the powder material was subjected to wet mixing and ball milling. The powder was then compressed and continued with the sintering process. From the research data, density testing using Archimedes theory, samples with 10% SiC fraction - 2.5% fly ash have the highest average experimental density value of 2.53688 g/cm³, and the lowest porosity testing percentage is obtained at 10% SiC fraction - 2.5% fly ash of 7.1539%. Hardness testing obtained hardness values of composite samples ranging from 26.540 HVN - 43.384 HVN. Observation of the composite microstructure using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) shows the presence of pores on the composite surface with a size range of 2.37 μm to 13.47 μm
