KARAKTERISTIK PASIEN BAYI DAN ANAK YANG MENJALANI PEMERIKSAAN BRAINSTEM EVOKED RESPONSE AUDIOMETRY DI POLIKLINIK THT-KL RS MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 2022-2024
Hearing loss is one of the most common sensory disorders in children and can significantly affect language, cognitive, and social development. Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA) plays an important role in assessing the function of the auditory nerve pathway, especially in infants and children who are difficult to evaluate through behavioral tests. This study was descriptive in nature, using secondary data from medical records of infant and child patients who underwent BERA examinations at the ENT-HNS Polyclinic of Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang, during the 2022-2024 period. Sampling was carried out using a total sampling technique involving 321 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed univariately using frequency and percentage distributions for various variables.The results showed that most patients were aged 12–60 months and were male. Of the 321 samples, (18.7%) were preterm, (18.7%) had a history of TORCHS infection, (8.1%) had maternal exposure to ototoxic drugs during pregnancy, (3.7%) had maternal herbal medicine use, (1.9%) had a family history of hearing loss, and (2.8%) of mothers experienced trauma during pregnancy. Low birth weight was found in (19.9%) of patients, asphyxia at birth in (11.2%), hyperbilirubinemia in (15.0%), NICU admission in (22.7%), head trauma after birth in (2.5%), and febrile seizures after birth in (13.1%). Overall, (18.1%) of patients were found to have hearing loss based on BERA results. Based on these findings, strengthening the implementation of Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS) in hospitals through multidisciplinary collaboration is essential to ensure effective early detection and intervention for hearing loss in infants and children.
