ANALISIS HIGIENE SANITASI LINGKUNGAN DI PASAR RANDIK KECAMATAN SEKAYU TAHUN 2024

Traditional markets play a strategic role as centers of economic and social activities in society. However, the high intensity of human interactions and diverse activities within them can potentially pose public health problems if hygiene and sanitation aspects are not properly managed. Market sanitation issues, such as ineffective waste management, unhygienic toilet conditions, limited handwashing facilities, and the low adoption of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) among traders and visitors, may increase the risk of environmentally transmitted diseases, including diarrhea, influenza, and tuberculosis. This situation highlights the need to evaluate the implementation of market environmental health standards in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation No. 17 of 2020. This study aims to analyze the hygiene and sanitation conditions of Randik Market, Sekayu District, Musi Banyuasin Regency, in 2024. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach through direct observation and in-depth interviews with key informants as well as general informants. The findings revealed that although the location and building structure of Randik Market largely comply with the Ministry of Health indicators, several significant shortcomings remain. The absence of separation between organic and inorganic waste, open and frequently clogged drainage channels, and untreated liquid waste disposal are the main problems. Vector control efforts and market disinfection are also suboptimal, while safety facilities such as fire extinguishers remain very limited. In addition, routine health examinations for traders have not been consistently implemented. Therefore, it can be concluded that Randik Market has not fully met the criteria of a healthy market. Comprehensive improvements are urgently needed in sanitation infrastructure, environmental management, as well as in strengthening education and supervision of PHBS, in order to reduce the risk of disease transmission and ensure that the market functions optimally as a healthy and safe economic center for the community.
