PROFIL PASIEN OSTEOARTRITIS GENU DI INSTALASI REHABILITASI MEDIK RUMAH SAKIT MOHAMMAD HOESIN (RSMH) PALEMBANG
Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common degenerative diseases of chronic musculoskeletal disorders, particularly in the elderly. The prevalence of knee osteoarthritis is higher compared to other joint OA. Clinical symptoms experienced by patients with knee OA include pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion (ROM), which lead to decreased physical function, difficulties in performing activities of daily living (ADL), and reduced quality of life. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of patients with knee OA at Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital (RSMH) Palembang based on sociodemographic factors, BMI, clinical manifestations, duration of diagnosis, history of previous diseases, treatment, and adherence history. Methods: This research employed a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. The data consisted of primary data obtained through interviews and secondary data derived from medical records of knee OA patients at RSMH Palembang who met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 26. Results: The majority of knee OA patients were female (88.5%), had a normal BMI (61.5%), and experienced mild pain (69.2%). Most cases were bilateral (73.1%), mild grade (76.9%), with moderate functional ability (46.2%), and a diagnosis duration of more than 1 year (92.3%). Most had no history of trauma (61.5%) or comorbidities (69.2%). The most frequently provided therapy was TENS (21.3%) and exercise, with a treatment frequency of more than two types of therapy (100.0%), and NSAID consumption (30.4%). The majority did not use assistive walking devices (96.4%) and did not undergo TKR (96.4%). Treatment adherence was excellent, with all patients routinely following therapy sessions 2–3 times per week (100.0%). Conclusion: Patients with knee OA at RSMH Palembang were predominantly female, with mild bilateral OA, moderate functional ability, mild pain, a diagnosis duration of more than 1 year, and no history of trauma or comorbidities. TENS was the most frequently provided therapy, with more than two types of therapy administered, NSAID consumption, no use of walking aids, and no TKR procedures. Overall, patient adherence to therapy was excellent. Keywords: Osteoarthritis, Knee, Profile, Quality of Life
