KORELASI RASIO NEUTROFIL LIMFOSIT (NLR) DENGAN DERAJAT KEPARAHAN PASIEN STROKE ISKEMIK AKUT MENURUT SKOR NIHSS DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG TAHUN 2024
Background: Acute ischemic stroke is a major cause of global morbidity and mortality. Systemic inflammation plays a key role in its pathogenesis, and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is used as an inflammatory indicator. Elevated NLR is suspected to correlate with stroke severity assessed using the NIHSS. Methods: This retrospective observational analytic study used medical records of acute ischemic stroke patients treated at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital from January to December 2024. A total of 51 samples were selected through consecutive sampling. NLR values were taken from admission complete blood counts, and stroke severity was assessed using the NIHSS. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and Spearman correlation (p < 0.05). Results: Most patients were aged 41–65 years (66.7%) and male (64.7%). The median NLR was 2.81 (IQR 2.19), and 51% had normal NLR values. The mean NIHSS score was 16.35 ± 7.91, with 51% categorized as severe stroke. A strong and significant positive correlation was found between NLR and NIHSS (r = 0.622; p < 0.001), indicating higher NLR is associated with greater stroke severity. Conclusion: NLR shows a strong significant relationship with acute ischemic stroke severity and may serve as a simple, low-cost inflammatory marker for early severity assessment.
