KARAKTERISTIK FAKTOR PENCETUS KEJADIAN STATUS EPILEPTIKUS PADA PASIEN ANAK DI RS DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Status epilepticus (SE) is one of the most common neurological emergencies requiring immediate management. This study aimed to identify the characteristics of precipitating factors of status epilepticus among pediatric patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang. Method: This research used a retrospective descriptive design with a cross sectional approach. Data were collected from medical records of pediatric patients diagnosed with SE at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital between January 1, 2020, to January 1, 2025. The variables analyzed included age, sex, diagnosis/history of epilepsy, neurological comorbidities, CNS infection, febrile seizures, head trauma, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic disorders. A total of 125 patients met the inclusion criteria. Results: The predominant age groups were infants and older children (31.2%), with males comprising (52.8%) of the cases. Diagnosis/history of epilepsy (55,2%), followed by CNS infection (29,6%), neurological comorbidities (18,4%), febrile seizures (8%), metabolic imbalance (8%), head trauma, hypertensive encephalopathy, and cardiovascular disease, encephalopathy hipoxic-ischemic, each accounting for 0.8%, with other causes accounting for 8,8%. Conclusion: Status epilepticus in children was most frequently observed in infants and older children, with a predominance of male patients. The most common precipitating factor was a diagnosis/history of epilepsy.
