HUBUNGAN ANTARA LIMFOPENIA DAN AKTIVITAS PENYAKIT LUPUS ERITEMATOSUS SISTEMIK
Background: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, ranging from mild cutaneous abnormalities to severe organ dysfunction. Previous studies have shown a decrease in lymphocyte count, or lymphopenia, in SLE patients, which is often associated with disease activity. However, research on the relationship between lymphopenia and SLE disease activity remains limited and shows varying results. This study aims to analyze the relationship between lymphopenia and SLE disease activity in the adult population. Methods: An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using secondary data obtained from the Medical Records Department and the Central Laboratory of Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang for the period of January 2023 to June 2025. Patient characteristics, lymphocyte counts, and disease activity were recorded. The relationship between lymphopenia and disease activity was analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: A total of 156 Systemic Lupus Erythematosus patients were recorded in the Medical Records Department of Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang during the 2023–2025 period. Based on patient characteristics, 56.4% were aged 26–44 years, 97.4% were female, the median lymphocyte count was 1,673.85/mm³, 59% did not experience lymphopenia, and 53.8% had moderate to very severe disease activity. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between lymphopenia and disease activity (p = 0.014). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between lymphopenia and disease activity in systemic lupus erythematosus. Lymphocyte count examination is important as a supporting biomarker to monitor changes in disease activity in systemic lupus erythematosus.
