PENGARUH KONTAMINAN KABUT GARAM (SALT-FOG) TERHADAP SIFAT HIDROFOBISITAS DAN RESISTIVITAS PERMUKAAN MATERIAL ISOLASI SILICONE RUBBER

Penelitian ini melaporkan hasil studi tentang pengaruh kontaminan kabut garam(salt-fog) pada silicone rubber sebagai fungsi waktu pengkondisian terhadap sudut kontak (contact angle) dan resistivitas permukaan (surface resistivity). Resistivitas permukaan dihitung berdasarkan nilai arus bocor pada permukaan sampel. Hasil pengukuran sudut kontak untuk kelompok kontrol adalah sebesar 109,6º. Untuk sampel dengan pengkondisian 48 jam; dan 96 jam diperoleh nilai sudut kontak sebesar 92,62º; 81,26º. Pengukuran resistivitas permukaan menggunakan standar ASTM D257 dengan tiga variasi tegangan aplikasi masing-masing 250 V; 500 V; dan 1000 V DC. Hasil pengukuran menunjukkan bahwa semakin lamanya waktu pengkondisian nilai arus bocor pada permukaan akan semakin meningkat dan sebaliknya nilai resistivitas permukaannya akan semakin menurun. Dari hasil yang diperoleh memperlihatkan bahwa nilai sudut kontak berbanding lurus dengan nilai resistivitas dan berbanding terbalik dengan nilai arus bocor. Hal ini dimungkinkan terjadi akibat degradasi sifat hidrofobisitas karena rusaknya struktur molekul dan struktur mikro pada permukaan material isolasi serta adanya aksi elektrotermal karena peningkatan arus bocor. Penurunan sifat hidrofobisitas ini meningkat ketika berada di lingkungan kabut garam. Garam NaCl memiliki daya higroskopis atau daya serap air yang cukup tinggi, sehingga NaCl dapat menyerap air lebih banyak dan pada permukaan sampel bersifat konduktif, sehingga sifat hidrofobiknya dapat menurun. Sedangkan penurunan nilai resistivitas permukaan disebabkan oleh meningkatnya kekasaran pada permukaan silicone rubber seiring dengan bertambahnya waktu terpapar permukaan isolasi oleh kabut garam dan adanya erosi akibat peluahan di permukaan. This paper reports the results of a study on the effect of salt-fog contaminants on silicone rubber as a function of conditioning time on contact angle and surface resistivity. Surface resistivity is calculated based on the leakage current value on the sample surface. The contact angle measurement result for the control group was 109.6º. For samples with 48 hours conditioning; and 96 hours, the contact angle values were 92.62º; 81.26º. Surface resistivity measurements using ASTM D257 standard with three variations of application voltage of 250 V; 500 V; and 1000 V DC respectively. The measurement results show that the longer the conditioning time the value of leakage current on the surface will increase and vice versa the surface resistivity value will decrease. The results obtained show that the contact angle value is directly proportional to the resistivity value and inversely proportional to the leakage current value. This may occur due to the degradation of hydrophobicity due to the destruction of the molecular structure and microstructure on the surface of the insulating material as well as electrothermal action due to an increase in leakage current. This decrease in hydrophobicity increases when in a salt fog environment. NaCl salt has a fairly high hygroscopic or water absorption power, so NaCl can absorb more water and on the surface of the sample is conductive, so that its hydrophobic properties can decrease. Meanwhile, the decrease in surface resistivity value is caused by the increase in roughness on the surface of silicone rubber along with the increase in time exposed to the insulating surface by salt fog and erosion due to discharge on the surface.
