KARAKTERISTIK PASIEN ADOLESCENT IDIOPATHIC SCOLIOSIS DI RS DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 2022 – 2025
Background: The spine is the central supporting structure of the body. Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is a three-dimensional structural deformity of the spine that occurs in adolescents 10-17 years old which is characterized by lateral curvature in the frontal plane, thoracic lordosis in the sagittal plane, and rotation of the vertebrae in the transverse plane, with a Cobb angle reaching a minimum limit of 10° or more. Early detection of AIS is very important to prevent curve progression which can reduce the patient's quality of life. Various studies have been carried out in Indonesia, but until now there is no specific data regarding the characteristics of AIS patients in Palembang. This study aims to determine the characteristics of AIS patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. The samples were Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis patients for the period January 2022-August 2025 at RS Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang who met the inclusion criteria was taken using the total sampling method. This research data is secondary data obtained through recording medical record data at the Medical Records Installation and the Anatomy Pathology Section of Dr. Hospital. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Results: This study analyzed the clinical characteristics of 47 patients with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS). The majority of patients were female (80.9%), with the most common age group being 13–15 years (59.6%). The mean age at menarche among female patients was 11.58 years, with a median of 12 years. Most patients presented with rib hump (97.9%), shoulder elevation (78.7% on the right), and pelvic obliquity (83%). Limb length discrepancy was observed in 17% of patients. The scoliosis curve most frequently deviated to the right (89.4%) and was most commonly located in the thoracic region (72,3%). The most prevalent Cobb angle was >56° (29.8%), indicating severe scoliosis, with skeletal maturity predominantly at Risser 4 (48.9%). The most common vertebral rotation was Grade 2 (44.7%). According to the Lenke classification, type 1 was most frequent (29.8%), with lumbar modifier type A (42.6%) and normal sagittal alignment (76.6%). According to the King-Moe classification, type 2 and 3 was most frequent (27,7%), The majority of patients received conservative treatment (57.4%), while 42.6% underwent surgical management. Conclusion: Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis patients who are treated inpatient and outpatient at Dr. Hospital. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2022 – 2025 has characteristics that are mostly in line with research at several hospitals and previous literature.
