KARAKTERISTIK SOSIODEMOGRAFI DAN KLINIS PADA PASIEN DAKRIOSISTITIS DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIODE 2021-2025

Background. Dacryocystitis is an inflammation of the lacrimal sac, commonly caused by tear stagnation due to obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct. Based on its clinical presentation, dacryocystitis is classified into acute and chronic forms. If not properly managed, particularly in the acute phase, dacryocystitis may lead to several complications that can affect visual function. Research on dacryocystitis in Indonesia remains limited and has not previously been conducted at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the distribution of sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of dacryocystitis patients in this hospital. Methods. This was a descriptive observational study using secondary data obtained from medical records of dacryocystitis patients from January 2021 to September 2025, collected through total sampling. Results. This study included a sample of 41 patients who met the inclusion criteria and did not meet the exclusion criteria. Dacryocystitis was more frequently observed in the 41–60-year age group, affecting 14 patients (34.1%). The majority of patients were female, with 26 patients (63.4%), and worked in indoor occupations, with 29 patients (70.7%). All patients presented with chronic symptoms (41 patients; 100%), and most cases had an acquired etiology (39 patients; 95.1%). Left-sided unilateral involvement was observed in 21 patients (51.2%). Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) was performed in 31 patients (75.7%). Among the 12 patients (29.3%) who completed the follow-up period, 10 patients (24.4%) did not experience recurrence. Conclusion. Patients with dacryocystitis were predominantly aged 41–60 years, female, indoor workers, had chronic symptoms, left-sided unilateral involvement, underwent DCR, and experienced no recurrence
