Tamim, Khairan - Personal Name;

The use of antibiotics in diseases such as acute respiratory infections (ARI) and acute gastrointestinal infections among under-five children, the most commonly encountered diseases, is an important indicator for evaluating the implementation of antibiotic stewardship. This study was conducted to analyze antibiotic use in public health centers (puskesmas) with the aim of obtaining information on the rate of antibiotic utilization in primary health care services in Palembang. Such information can serve as a reference for reducing irrational antibiotic use. This research was a retrospective descriptive study using secondary data from electronic medical records of under-five patients diagnosed with acute respiratory infections and acute gastrointestinal infections at public health centers in Palembang City, employing a total sampling technique. The study included 509 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The average age of patients was 2 years, 2 months, and 28 days, the majority were male (289 patients; 56.8%) and had good nutritional status (297 patients; 58.3%). The most common diagnosis was acute respiratory infection (458 patients; 90.0%), with 298 patients (58.5%) receiving antibiotics. The most frequently prescribed antibiotic for ARI cases was amoxycillin (248 patients; 97.3%). For acute gastrointestinal infections, the most common antibiotic was cotrimoxazole (41 patients; 100.0%), while for patients diagnosed with both ARI and acute gastrointestinal infections, amoxicillin was used (2 patients; 100.0%). Antibiotic use was most prevalent among under-five children with an average age of 2 years and 6 months, predominantly female (134 patients; 60.9%), and with gizi lebih nutritional status (19 patients; 67.9%). In conclusion, the basic characteristics of under-five patients with acute respiratory and gastrointestinal infections who received antibiotics were an average age of 2 years and 6 months, female gender predominance, gizi lebih nutritional status, with the most common use of antibiotics in ARI is amoxycillin, most common in acute gastrointestinal infection is cotrimoxazole, and the most common with both diagnosis is amoxycillin.
