Chairani, Puan Rachmi - Personal Name;

Background. Acne vulgaris is a common skin disease experienced by adolescents. This chronic inflammation of the pilosebaceous follicles can manifest as comedones, papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. Although this disease is not life-threatening, acne vulgaris can cause a significant psychological impact. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the severity of acne vulgaris and quality of life among high school students in Palembang. Methods. This study was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. Of a total of 100 respondents, 92 respondents met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed in this study. Data were collected using the Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) questionnaire and physical examination to assess the severity of acne vulgaris based on the Lehmann classification. Results. Most respondents were 16 years old (43.5%) and male (51.1%). Moderate acne vulgaris (60.9%) was more common than mild acne vulgaris (35.9%) and severe acne vulgaris (3.3%). Most respondents experienced a moderate impairment in quality of life (56.5%), followed by mild impairment (30.4%) and severe impairment (13%). Based on the Chi-square test, a p-value of 0.019 (p < 0.05) was obtained for the relationship between the severity of acne vulgaris and quality of life. Respondents with moderate to severe acne vulgaris had a 1.429 times higher risk of experiencing moderate to severe impairment in quality of life compared to those with mild acne (PR = 1.429; 95% CI = 1.018–2.008). Conclusion. A significant relationship was found between the severity of acne vulgaris and quality of life.
