IMPROVING ENGLISH FLUENCY AND SPEAKING SKILLS THROUGH DRAMA: AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENT EXPERIENCES IN LITERATURE IN ELT

Dewi, Arsita Maharani Kusuma - Personal Name;

This study aims to explore how drama-based activities influence students’ English fluency, confidence, and speaking skills in an English Literature in ELT course. It employs a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative data from questionnaires with qualitative insights from open-ended responses and semi-structured interviews. The participants were sixth-semester English Education students who had joined a drama project in their fourth semester. Results show that drama effectively enhances speaking fluency and reduces speaking anxiety, with most students reporting increased confidence. Despite initial challenges, students viewed drama as an enjoyable and meaningful way to improve their communication skills. The findings support the use of drama as a valuable method in English language learning.
