STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS OF USING GRAMMARLYAS AN ONLINE GRAMMAR CHECKER TO IMPROVE WRITING ABILITY AT SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY.
This study investigated students’ perceptions of using Grammarly as an online grammar checker to improve writing ability at Sriwijaya University. A case study with qualitative method was applied in this study. Semi-structured interview and documentation in the form of writing course grades were conducted to collect data. Seven students of six-semester English Education study program from various proficiency level of writing participated. The data from interview was analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings of this study showed that students perceived benefits of using Grammarly for writing improvement. During the learning process, students also faced some concerns of using Grammarly, such as accuracy of the checking results and connection issues. Along the process, students dealt with Grammarly issues such as re-checking for the correction results and understanding the sentences structure and mechanics in writing. The results of this study are expected to provide insight that Grammarly helps students improve their writing ability. Keywords: Online Grammar Checker, Grammarly, Writing, Writing Course Grades.
