FAKTOR YANG MEMPENGARUHI KONDISI PSIKOSOSIAL DAN FUNGSIONAL PADA PASIEN GLAUKOMA DI RUMAH SAKIT KHUSUS MATA MASYARAKAT PROVINSI SUMATERA SELATAN

Background: Glaucoma is a chronic eye disease characterized by progressive damage to the optic nerve, commonly associated with increased intraocular pressure due to impaired aqueous humor outflow. The impact of glaucoma extends beyond visual impairment, affecting patients’ psychosocial well-being and functional abilities, thereby reducing their overall quality of life. However, research on the psychosocial and functional conditions of glaucoma patients in Indonesia, particularly in South Sumatra, remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to identify factors associated with psychosocial and functional conditions among glaucoma patients at Rumah Sakit Khusus Mata Masyarakat Provinsi Sumatera Selatan. Methods: This study employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach involving 43 glaucoma patients who met the inclusion criteria at Rumah Sakit Khusus Mata Masyarakat Provinsi Sumatera Selatan. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses, with the chi-square test applied to determine associations between variables. Results: Factors significantly associated with psychosocial conditions among glaucoma patients were age (p = 0.046), duration of glaucoma (p = 0.019), and disease severity (p < 0.001). Meanwhile, factors significantly associated with functional conditions were gender (p = 0.037) and disease severity (p < 0.001). Conclusion: There were significant associations between age, duration of glaucoma, and disease severity with psychosocial conditions. In addition, gender and disease severity were significantly associated with functional conditions among glaucoma patients.
