KARAKTERISTIK TUMOR INTRAKRANIAL PADA ANAK DI RUMAH SAKIT DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background. Intracranial tumors are abnormal growths within the cranial cavity caused by uncontrolled cell proliferation, which can originate from brain tissue or its supporting structures. The incidence rate of brain tumors and central nervous system tumors (both malignant and benign) in children and adolescents (0–19 years old) was recorded at 6.06 cases per 100,000 population. Method. This study is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach based on secondary data, namely the medical records of pediatric patients with intracranial tumors who were hospitalized and treated as outpatients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital in Palembang from January 2022 to June 2025, using total sampling technique. Result. This study involved 78 patients. Intracranial tumors in children were most commonly found in the >10–18-year age group (35 patients; 44.9%) and were more frequent in males (45 patients; 57.7%). The most common presenting symptom was headache (41 patients; 52.6%), with hydrocephalus being the predominant radiological finding (55 patients; 70.5%). Most tumors were located in the supratentorial region (45 patients; 57.7%). Astrocytoma was the most frequent pathological subtype (11 patients; 29.7%), with grade 1 being the most commonly observed malignancy grade (15 patients; 50%). Combination therapy was the primary treatment approach (28 patients; 35.9%), and the majority of patients were discharged alive (52 patients; 66.7%). Conclusion. Intracranial tumors in children are predominantly found in the >10–18 age group, occur more frequently in males, with the main symptom being headache, accompanied by hydrocephalus as the most common complication, located mainly in the supratentorial region, with the most common pathological classification being grade 1 astrocytoma, receiving combination therapy as the most common treatment, and the majority of patients have a favorable prognosis.
