PENGGUNAAN LIMBAH PLASTIK HDPE DENGAN PERLAKUAN AWAL SEBAGAI SUBTITUSI PARSIAL PASIR PADA BETON TERHADAP KUAT TEKAN DAN KUAT TARIK BELAH BETON
The issue of plastic pollution continues to rise along with the increasing consumption of single-use products, one of which is High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic that is difficult to degrade in the environment. On the other hand, the demand for aggregates in concrete production is also growing, creating the need for sustainable alternative materials. This study aims to evaluate the effect of using HDPE plastic waste with surface pretreatment as a partial substitution for sand on the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of concrete. The HDPE variations used were 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% of the sand volume, with cylindrical specimens of 10 × 20 cm tested at the ages of 7 and 28 days. The test results indicate that the addition of HDPE at certain proportions can improve the mechanical properties of concrete. The 10% variation achieved the best performance with an average compressive strength of 30.03 MPa and a splitting tensile strength of 3.31 MPa, which increased 12,47% and 14,53% respectively compared to normal concrete. This improvement is attributed to the pretreatment effect of HDPE particles, which enhances the bonding between components in the concrete mixture.
