GAMBARAN PENGETAHUAN DAN PERILAKU ORANG TUA TENTANG PENCEGAHAN KARIES PADA BALITA STUNTING
Background: Dental caries is important for children’s development. Untreated caries will cause malnutrition in the form of stunting in children. Stunting is a nutritional problem resulting from insufficient nutrition that lasts for a long time due to lack of parental knowledge. Parental knowledge influences children's dental and oral health behavior in preventing caries. Parental knowledge and behavior play an important role in preventing caries in stunted children because stunted children tend to be unable to maintain proper oral health. Objective: This study aims to determine the description of parental knowledge and behavior about caries prevention in stunted toddlers. Method: This study was a descriptive study with a cross sectional design conducted on March 9 2024 at Puskesmas 1 Ulu, Palembang City. Samples were taken using a total sampling technique of 34 parents of stunted toddlers. This study used a questionnaire consisting of three parts, in the form of sociodemographic questions, knowledge and parental behavior. Datas were analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: The level of parental knowledge about caries prevention in stunted toddlers was in the good category 67.6%, in the enough category 26.5%, and in the poor category 5.9%. The level of parental behavior in the good category was 70.6%, the enough category was 20.6%, and the poor category was 8.8%. Conclusion: Parents of stunting toddlers at Puskesmas 1 Ulu, Palembang City have a good level of knowledge and behavior about caries prevention.
