PENGGUNAAN BENTONITE AKTIF DAN ARANG AKTIF SEBAGAI MEDIA PEMURNIAN MINYAK TRANSFORMATOR BEKAS
Transformer oil is a liquid insulation that is used as a lubricant in transformers, and as a heat transfer or safety guard for the temperature inside the transformer. When transformer oil is used continuously, its quality as liquid insulation will decrease, which is caused by several factors, including oxidation that occurs in the tank. Contaminants from outside and so on. If this happens, the transformer oil will reduce the quality of the breakdown voltage, color brightness and so on. This research focuses on the purification of used transformer oil, with the hope that after purification, the used transformer oil can be reused. This research uses activated bentonite with HNO3 activation and activated charcoal with physical activation as purification materials. As for the results of this research, used transformer oil which initially had a breakdown voltage of 8.8 kV, with variations in the material composition of 18 grams of bentonite, 12 grams of bentonite + activated charcoal, 15 grams of bentonite + activated charcoal, and 25 grams of activated charcoal, the breakdown voltage increased , ranging between 12.7 - 16 kV. Meanwhile, the color brightness increases range from 1.8 - 0.6 from a color brightness level of 2.4. With this composition, it can be seen that the breakdown voltage and color brightness of used transformer oil increase after purification with activated bentonite and activated charcoal.
