KADAR PROSTATE SPECIFIC ANTIGEN (PSA) PADA PASIEN ADENOKARSINOMA PROSTAT DAN BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA DI RUMAH SAKIT MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG TAHUN 2022-2024
Background. Prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) are the most common prostate disorders in elderly men, often presenting with similar clinical manifestations. Measurement of Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) levels plays an important role in the early detection of prostate abnormalities, although elevated PSA is not specific for malignancy. Due to limited local data on PSA levels in prostate adenocarcinoma and BPH cases in Palembang, this study aimed to analyze the distribution of PSA levels among patients at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang during 2022–2024. Methods. This study employed a cross-sectional design with consecutive sampling. It included 72 patients with histopathologically confirmed prostate adenocarcinoma and 8 patients with BPH who met the inclusion criteria. Clinical data were collected from patient’s medical records at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. Results. In this study involving 72 patients with prostate adenocarcinoma and 8 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), most prostate adenocarcinoma cases were aged ≥70 years with PSA levels >50 ng/mL (31,9%), whereas PSA levels in the BPH group were predominantly within the 4–10 ng/mL range, with most patients aged 60–69 years (37.5%). Higher PSA levels were generally observed in cases with higher Gleason scores, particularly poorly differentiated tumors (scores 8–10). Prostate volumes in both groups were largely distributed within the 30–80 mL range. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) was the most frequently performed procedure in both groups, accounting for 80.6% of prostate adenocarcinoma cases and 100% of BPH cases. Conclusion. PSA levels were higher in patients with prostate adenocarcinoma than in those with BPH. Increased PSA values were associated with tissue differentiation status rather than prostate volume.
