HUBUNGAN PENGETAHUAN DAN SIKAP DENGAN PERILAKU ORANG TUA TENTANG PEMBERIAN VAKSIN HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS DI SEKOLAH SWASTA KOTA PALEMBANG
Background: Cervical cancer is a malignancy highly influenced by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection, especially types 16 and 18. In Indonesia, cervical cancer cases and mortality remain high, while HPV vaccination coverage as a primary prevention effort is still suboptimal, particularly because parental decisions strongly affect child immunization. Lack of adequate knowledge and attitudes toward HPV vaccine often hinder vaccination coverage. This study aims to describe the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of private school parents in Palembang City toward HPV vaccination, and to analyze the relationships among these three variables. Methods: A quantitative descriptive analytic cross-sectional study was conducted involving 72 parents of students from SDIT and SMPIT Izzudin, Palembang. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed with Fischer’s exact tests to determine associations. Results: Most respondents were female, well-educated, and had good economic status. Adequate knowledge about HPV and vaccination was found in 72.2% of respondents, with 84.7% showing positive attitudes toward HPV vaccination. However, actual vaccine administration behavior was low at 22.2%. A significant association existed between knowledge and vaccination behavior (p = 0.023), but attitude was not significantly related to behavior (p = 0.754). Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between parental knowledge and the behavior of providing HPV vaccination to their children, while positive attitudes alone do not necessarily lead to vaccination behavior. Keywords: cervical cancer, HPV, vaccination, knowledge, attitude, behavior, parents.
