PERENCANAAN DAN PERANCANGAN RUMAH LITERASI DENGAN PENDEKATAN KONTEKSTUAL DI KOTA PALEMBANG
This study addresses Indonesia’s low literacy level by designing a literacy house as an inclusive public facility tailored to the needs of the Palembang community. The design employs a contextual approach that examines environmental characteristics, movement patterns, site conditions, and user needs as the foundation for developing the spatial program and massing strategy. Functional analysis, spatial relationships, and circulation patterns form the basis for shaping an efficient, accessible, and adaptable building configuration that accommodates diverse literacy activities. The resulting design organizes the massing into a central library as the primary core, educational spaces as supporting functions, and a communal plaza as a social connector, strengthened by landscape elements that enhance ecological quality and thermal comfort. A one-way vehicular circulation system, designated parking zones, and noise mitigation strategies through vegetation are implemented to maintain comfort for reading and learning activities. Sun-shaded and perforated facades, reinforced concrete structures, acoustic–thermal materials, and safe, efficient utility systems are applied to support the building’s sustainability. The design demonstrates that integrating a contextual approach with functional and circulation analyses can produce a literacy house that is responsive, adaptive, and relevant to urban communities.
