ANGKA KEJADIAN DAN HUBUNGAN PROFIL DEMOGRAFI DAN PERILAKU SEKSUAL BERISIKO PADA PASIEN SIFILIS DI POLIKLINIK DERMATOLOGI, VENEROLOGI, DAN ESTETIKA RS MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG TAHUN 2022-2024
Background: Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Treponema pallidum with an increasing trend in both global and national cases. This study is important to determine the incidence rate and the relationship between demographic profiles and risky sexual behavior in syphilis patients at the Dermatology, Venereology, and Aesthetics (DVE) Polyclinic of Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang from 2022 to 2024. Methods: The study used a cross-sectional design with secondary data from medical records and new syphilis patient registers for the period January 2022 December 2024. A sample of 45 new patients was selected using total sampling. Data analysis used the chi-square test. Results: From a total of 15,244 patients who visited the Dermatology, Venereology, and Aesthetics Polyclinic at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang during the period 2022–2024, 807 patients were recorded with sexually transmitted infections. From this number, 162 patients were diagnosed with syphilis, and 45 new syphilis patients who met the inclusion criteria were analyzed further in this study. From the total of 45 syphilis patients analyzed, the highest incidence rate was recorded in 2022 at 0.34%, followed by 2024 at 0.30%, and the lowest in 2023 at 0.25%. Based on disease stage distribution, the majority of patients were in the latent stage (64.4%), followed by secondary (28.9%), primary (4.4%), and tertiary (2.2%). Most patients were male (75.6%), aged 15–49 years (91.1%), had senior high school/equivalent education (66.7%), were married (57.8%), and worked as private employees (42.2%). A total of 31.1% of patients had positive HIV status. Bivariate analysis showed a significant association between gender and homo/bisexual orientation (p=0.008) as well as genito-anal sexual contact practices (p=0.019). Positive HIV status was also significantly associated with Homo/bisexual orientation (p=0.006) and genito-anal sexual contact practices (p=0.011). The occupation variable had a significant relationship with the behavior of having more than one sexual partner (p=0.041). No significant relationship was found between other sociodemographic variables and early sexual intercourse behavior. Conclusion: The incidence rate of syphilis is relatively low but stable, with the majority of cases in the latent stage. The patient profile is dominated by males of productive age with secondary education. Gender and HIV history play important roles in risky behavior. Comprehensive prevention and education efforts are needed for high-risk groups. Keywords: Syphilis, incidence, demographic profile, high risk, behavior, Treponema pallidum
