HUBUNGAN EKSPRESI GEN TP53 PADA JARINGAN TULANG PASIEN OSTEOSARKOMA DENGAN KARAKTERISTIK KLINIS PASIEN DI RS MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background. Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant bone tumor, particularly occurring in children, adolescents, and young adults. One of the genes that plays an important role in the pathogenesis of osteosarcoma is TP53, a tumor suppressor gene that regulates the cell cycle and apoptosis. Mutation or disruption of the expression of this gene causes loss of the ability to inhibit abnormal proliferation, thereby increasing tumor aggressiveness. The association between TP53 gene expression and the clinical characteristics of osteosarcoma patients has not been widely studied in Indonesia, particularly at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. Methods. This study was an observational analytic research with a cross-sectional design. Data were obtained from the medical records of osteosarcoma patients at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang from January 2024 to September 2025. Samples were selected using total sampling, resulting in 21 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed descriptively and using the Chi-Square test to assess the association between TP53 protein expression and age, sex, metastasis, and clinical stage. Results. Most patients showed positive TP53 expression (76.2%). The largest age group was 11–20 years (57.1%) and most patients were male (61.9%). The majority did not present with metastasis (61.9%) and were in stage III (38.1%) based on the Enneking system. The Chi-Square test showed no significant association between TP53 expression and age (p = 0.406), sex (p = 0.340), metastasis (p = 0.340), or clinical stage (p = 0.567). Conclusion. There is no significant association between TP53 gene expression and the clinical characteristics of osteosarcoma patients at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. However, the high proportion of positive TP53 expression suggests the possible role of this gene in the malignancy process of osteosarcoma. Keywords. Osteosarcoma, TP53, protein expression, biomarker, immunohistochemistry
