HUBUNGAN ANTARA PENGETAHUAN IBU TENTANG STUNTING DENGAN KEJADIAN STUNTING PADA ANAK USIA 6-24 BULAN

Rahayu, Maulida Siti - Personal Name;

Background: Stunting remains a nutritional problem among children under five in Indonesia. National data in 2024 reported a prevalence of 19.8%, indicating that the condition has not been fully resolved. Maternal knowledge about stunting plays an essential role in its prevention by shaping awareness, attitudes, and behaviors related to maintaining children’s health and nutritional needs for optimal growth. Studies on the relationship between maternal knowledge and stunting using case control design are limited; therefore, this study aimed to analyze the association between maternal knowledge and stunting incidence in children aged 6–24 months. Methods: This study employed an observational analytic design with case-control approach, conducted from August–October 2025 in Palembang City. The sample consisted of 110 respondents. Data were collected through interviews and measurement, and analyzed using univariate and bivariate Chi-Square method. Results: There was a significant relationship between maternal knowledge about stunting and stunting incidence among children aged 6–24 months (p=0.002;OR=3.604;95%CI:1.59–8.15), mothers with poor knowledge were 3.6 times more likely to have stunted children. In addition, maternal education and family income were significantly associated with both stunting incidence (p=0.038;p=0.024) and maternal knowledge (p=0.002;p=0.025). Conclusion: The study concludes that maternal knowledge is linked to stunting incidence, though misconceptions about stunting need addressing. This study found that maternal education and family income affect maternal knowledge and related to stunting incidence. Therefore, educational interventions should target mothers with lower education levels and income, ensuring a thorough understanding of stunting. Keywords: Stunting, Mother’s Knowledge about Stunting, Education, Family Income, Children.
