RANCANG BANGUN SUBSURFACE IRRIGATION SYSTEM MENGGUNAKAN TIMER OTOMATIS PADA PERTUMBUHAN TANAMAN SELADA (Lactuca sativa L.)
An efficient and on-time irrigation system is one of the important factors to support optimal growth of lettuce plants (Lactuca sativa L.) in the agricultural sector. Especially in the context of urban farming, which emphasizes land and water efficiency. This research was conducted from March to August 2025 at the Plant House, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research aims to design a subsurface irrigation system with an automatic timer for the growth of lettuce plants. The method applied was functional and structural design with watering durations of 10 and 15 minutes at three-day intervals. The observed parameters included water volume, flow discharge, irrigation efficiency and lettuce plant growth. The results showed that the treatment of watering duration had a significant effect for lettuce plant growth and producton. 10 minutes of watering produced the highest water use efficiency 8.02 kg/m³ with a total water use of 11.97 m³, while 15 minutes resulted in lower efficiency 5.25 kg/m³ with higher water use of 23.94 m³. However, the 15 minute treatment provided better plant growth, with plant height of 8.62 cm, 5.98 leaves, maximum leaf width of 5.9 cm, and fresh weight of 1.257 kg. In comparison, 10 minutes of watering resulted in 7.29 cm plant height, 6.3 leaves, 4.4 cm maximum leaf width, and 0.96 kg fresh weight. Key words: Subsurface Irrigation System, Automatic Timer, Hydroponic, Lettuce Plant.
