Communication accommodation is a person's ability to adjust, modify, and regulate communication behavior towards the culture of other individuals. This behavior is carried out by everyone, including immigrant communities in Sumber Jaya Village which is a multi-ethnic area. There are several problems caused by differences in culture, communication style, and culture. This study aims to see how the process of communication accommodation of the Javanese, Balinese, and Bugis ethnic groups in Sumber Jaya Village, Sumber Marga Telang District, Banyuasin Regency in preventing potential conflicts. This study is based on the Communication Accommodation theory initiated by Howard Giles in 1973. The method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with three main informants and two supporting informants. The findings of convergence in this study include adjustments to new environments, a desire to learn other cultures, and the view that communication accommodation is important in intercultural communication exchanges to prevent conflict. Meanwhile, the findings of divergence can be seen from the efforts to maintain and highlight each other's original culture. Excessive communication accommodation was not found in this study, because the informants still uphold an attitude of tolerance and maintain harmony between communities. The conclusion of this study shows that communities tend to use convergence strategies in the communication accommodation process, namely by adjusting culture, language, customs, and habits verbally and nonverbally with the local culture. This is done without excessive effort so as not to cause problems or conflicts in community life.
