REPRSENTASI BEAUTY PRIVILEGE DALAM DRAMA KOREA MASK GIRL (ANALISIS SEMIOTIKA ROLAND BARTHES)

Representations of beauty and beauty privilege in the media often reflect and reinforce existing social structures in society. The Korean drama "Mask Girl" provides a clear picture of how beauty standards affect social dynamics and characterization in the context of modern Korean culture. This study aims to determine how the representation of beauty privilege in the Korean drama Mask Girl. The method used in this study is a qualitative method that is useful for understanding the impact of this representation, this study applies Roland Barthes' semiotic theory to analyze how visual elements in this drama build a narrative about beauty. The results of the analysis show that the drama "Mask Girl" uses visual symbols to strengthen or challenge stereotypes of beauty that apply in Korean society. The character of Kim Ko Mi, as the main protagonist, is studied to see how her appearance affects her social treatment and conversations with other characters. This study provides deep insight into how visual media such as drama can reflect and reinforce existing social structures around beauty privilege.
