KARAKTERISTIK DAN GAMBARAN KLINIS PASIEN PTOSIS DI RSMH PALEMBANG PERIODE TAHUN 2016-2025
Background: Ptosis is a condition characterized by drooping of the upper eyelid resulting from dysfunction of the muscles, nerves, aponeurosis, or supporting structures of the eyelid. It may be congenital or acquired and can affect visual function as well as cosmetic appearance. Data regarding the characteristics and clinical features of ptosis in Palembang remain limited; therefore, this study was conducted to describe the clinical profile of ptosis patients based on clinical examination findings. Methods: This study was a retrospective descriptive observational study using secondary data from the medical records of ptosis patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang from January 2016 to July 2025. Total sampling was applied, and 81 patients who met the inclusion criteria were included. Data were analyzed descriptively and presented in tables and narrative form. Results: The majority of patients were aged 40–59 years (32.1%) and were female (53.1%). Ptosis was most commonly unilateral on the left side (50.6%), followed by unilateral right (30.9%) and bilateral involvement (18.5%). Based on onset, acquired ptosis was the most common type (72.8%). The most frequent etiology was neurogenic (34.6%), followed by mechanical (22.2%), myogenic (21.0%), aponeurotic (17.3%), and traumatic (4.9%). Based on MRD1 measurements, severe ptosis was the most common degree (46.9%), with moderate levator muscle function being the most frequent finding (53.1%). Bell’s phenomenon was positive in 79.0% of patients, while lid lag was negative in 79.0% of patients. Conclusion: Ptosis patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang were predominantly middle-aged adults, more frequently female, unilateral in presentation, and most commonly represented acquired ptosis with neurogenic etiology. The clinical features were characterized by severe ptosis based on MRD1, moderate levator muscle function, positive Bell’s phenomenon, and negative lid lag. These findings are consistent with previously reported characteristics of ptosis and may serve as a reference for clinical evaluation and management planning. Keywords: ptosis, characteristics, clinical features.
