PENGARUH KOPI ROBUSTA TERHADAP STABILITAS WARNA BASIS GIGI TIRUAN BERBAHAN NILON TERMOPLASTIK
Background: Thermoplastic nylon is a material that is flexible, has good esthetics, and is used as an alternative for individuals who are allergic to residual resin monomers and metals. However, thermoplastic nylon has a high water absorption rate, which affects its color stability. Color stability is one of the most important clinical properties in dentistry. One factor that can influence the color stability of thermoplastic nylon is coffee. Coffee is a widely consumed beverage today, including in South Sumatra. The compounds present in Robusta coffee have a high potential to cause staining compared to other types of coffee. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of robusta coffee and immersion duration on the color stability of thermoplastic nylon denture base. Method: This study was a laboratory experimental research with pre-test and post-test group design. A total of 32 thermoplastic nylon sampels measuring 20mm x 3mm were divided into 8 group, which were 4 groups immersed in robusta coffee and the other 4 groups immersed in aquadest for 1, 3, 5, and 7 days. Color stability was measured by colorimeter. The statistical tests were Paired t-test, One Way-Anova, and Post hoc LSD. Result: The paired T-test results showed that each group had significant color changes in the degree of dark-light (∆L). The highest mean color change was found in the group immersed in robusta coffee for 7 days (mean=14.25), while the lowest color change was in the group immersed in aquadest for 1 day (mean=9.68). Conclusion: Robusta coffee can affect the color stability of thermoplastic nylon and the longer the immertion time in robusta coffee, the greater the degree of color change.
