UJI KINERJA MEMBRANE ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY (MEA) MENGGUNAKAN KATALIS Pt-BLACK DAN Pt/C UNTUK DIRECT METHANOL FUEL CELL (DMFC) PADA JENIS MEMBRAN ELEKTROLIT DAN KONSENTRASI METANOL BERVARIASI

Sipahutar, Theresia Marianti - Personal Name;

Performance testing of the membrane electrode assembly (MEA) using Pt-Black and Pt/C catalysts for direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) on electrolyte membranes with varying methanol concentrations has been carried out. MEA is designed by combining Pt-Black electrodes on the anode side and Pt/C on the cathode side using Nafion 117 (N117) and Nafion 212 (N212) membranes. MEA was characterized using the Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) method to determine the Electrochemical Surface Area (ECSA) value and the Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) method to determine the electrical conductivity value. MEA characterization results showed that the ECSA value obtained by MEA was the highest for the N117 membrane at a concentration of 5%, amounting to 6.58 x 10-5 m2/g, while for the N212 membrane, the ESCA value was 2.87 x 10-5 m2 /g. The highest electrical conductivity value in MEA with the N117 membrane was 1.54 x 10-7 S/cm while the N212 membrane obtained a conductivity value of 7.62 x 10-8 S/cm. MEA performance test results obtained the best open circuit voltage (OCV) value at a concentration of 5% with the OCV value of the N117 membrane being 0.257 V and the N212 membrane being 0.196 V and the optimum power density value of the N117 membrane was 0.038 mW/cm2. In contrast, the optimum power density of the N212 membrane was 0.027 mW/cm2.
